David stands as a prophetic bridge between the established Levitical system and the revelation of a greater priesthood. In 2 Samuel 8:18, David’s sons are described in priestly terms, indicating that there was an expansion of understanding beyond traditional structures.

More importantly, in Psalm 110 1–7, David prophesies of a coming Messiah who would be both King and Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. This is significant because under the law, kingship and priesthood were separate. David, through revelation, speaks of a merging that had not yet been manifested.

David honored the Levitical system, as seen in 1 Chronicles 15:11–15, yet he was not confined by it. He carried insight into something greater that was coming.

This positions David not just as a king, but as a prophetic voice pointing forward. He understood that the future of God’s Kingdom would not operate within the limitations of the current system, but would introduce a higher order where authority and access would function together.
